DENTAL AMALGAM
Dental amalgam:Dental amalgam continues to be the most –used restorative material with a track record of more than 175 years
The most recent controversy is related to amalgam’s release of mercury
There is considerable evidence of the safety of dental amalgam .
To date ,there is no confirmed evidence to indicate that the mercury in dental amalgam is related to any disease and now is accepted as safe with long track record.
GLASS IONOMER CEMENT
Composition
A substance made up of aluminosilicate glass powder and a liquid polyacrylic acid
Properties
Esthetic; colour is similar to that of natural teeth, but lack of translucency
Bonds to the tooth
Fluoride releasing prevents recurrent tooth decay around the filling material
Disadvantage
Insufficient strength to bear chewing force in long term, relatively low wear resistance
Application
Use on tooth surfaces that are not exposed to heavy chewing force, e.g. outer surface, to restore the abraded part
What are dental composites?
Dental composites are a combination of materials that are used in dental restoration to improve the aesthetics of a person’s smile and to fill cavities. Today’s composite materials are strong and are used much more widely – even on chewing surfaces – providing a more attractive, natural-looking alternative to dental fillings for a better smile.
What are the benefits of composites?
Good match with your surrounding teeth, composite resins offer other benefits as well:
Composites use strong adhesives so more of your own tooth can be spared, which means we won’t have to drill into your healthy tooth.
They’re easy to repair. Although composites are strong enough for daily wear and tear, if they should become chipped or damaged, they can be repaired by adding additional composite and shaping it into a natural shape.
They provide a stronger bond. Because they stick chemically to your tooth, composite fillings and restorations strengthen teeth and provide a hard, protective barrier from decay.
INLAY AND ONLAY
An inlay is similar to a filling and lies inside the cusp tips of the tooth. They are custom-made to fit the prepared cavity and are then cemented into place. An onlay is a more extensive reconstruction that covers one or more cusps of a tooth. Onlays are indicated in situations where a substantial reconstruction is required. However, more of the tooth structure can be conserved compared to the placement of a crown.
Inlays and onlays are applied in two dental visits. At the first visit, the old filling, or decay, is removed, and the tooth is prepared for the inlay / onlay. The dentist will then make an impression of the tooth, and send this impression to a dental laboratory. This impression will be used by the laboratory to construct a custom-made porcelain, or gold inlay / onlay. At this time the dentist will place a temporary sealant on your tooth and schedule a second appointment

igh patient comfort thanks to the flexible, three-dimensional design
Due to the enhanced elasticity of the material, the lips and cheeks are even more gently retracted around the circumference of the mouth. Consequently, OptraDam Plus is now even more comfortable to wear even during lengthy procedures.
Simultaneous isolation of both arches thanks to the tension-free placement
Its anatomical shape helps to create a considerably larger treatment field. At the same time complete isolation of both arches is achieved.

Palodent® Plus
Sectional Matrix System
97% of clinicians say that achieving proper isolation of a Class II cavity is difficult in at least 1 out of 10 cases.20
Clinical success starts with a solid foundation. When using resin-based restoratives, both isolation and accurate contact creation are essential for success. Choose a matrix system that not only provides anatomically accurate contacts, but also helps create a tight seal around the restorative field. The Palodent® Plus system is designed to create predictable, accurate contacts, a tight gingival seal, and can be configured for multiple restorations at once.
